Ethics Playground — Terms of Service
Version 1.0 — 27 October 2026. These terms are between Ethics Olympiad Pty Ltd (ABN 52 606 554 367, PO Box 116, Dernancourt SA 5075) ("we", "us") and the school or organisation whose teachers use Ethics Playground ("the school", "you"). A teacher who creates or uses an account accepts these terms on the school's behalf and confirms they are authorised to do so.
1. What Ethics Playground is
Ethics Playground (ethicsplayground.com.au, ethicsplayground.com) is a web-based set of short ethics games, units and thought experiments for school students, played in class under a teacher's supervision. It is a thinking-skills resource, not an assessment tool, and scores are not a measure of a student's character or ability.
2. Licence
2.1 We grant the school a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Ethics Playground for its students for the licence term shown in the school's account, up to the number of student seats purchased.
2.2 Licence fees are invoiced separately by Ethics Olympiad Pty Ltd under the pricing agreed with the school. These terms do not set prices. Access ends on the licence end date unless renewed; teachers see the date on their dashboard, with a warning in the last 30 days.
2.3 Seats are counted as active students across all the school's classes. The platform will not allow students to be added beyond the seat limit.
2.4 The school may let any of its teachers use the platform. Each teacher needs their own account; accounts are not to be shared.
3. The school's responsibilities
3.1 Consent and notice. The school is responsible for having whatever consent or authority it needs under its own policies and state law to enter a student's first name into Ethics Playground, and for telling parents and carers that the class uses it. Our Privacy Policy includes a note the school can send.
3.2 Data entered. Teachers will enter first names only (the platform shortens anything longer) and will not enter surnames, dates of birth, health, behavioural or other information about students anywhere on the platform, including in class names.
3.3 Supervision and acceptable use. The school will ensure the platform is used in line with the Acceptable Use Policy, keep class codes and PINs confidential, and tell us the same day if an account or class code may have been compromised.
3.4 The "Everyone" leaderboard. A teacher who opts a class into the cross-school leaderboard confirms the school permits students' first names, emojis and state to be visible to students at other schools, and will tell parents.
4. Our responsibilities
4.1 We will provide the platform with reasonable care and skill, keep it available except for maintenance and events outside our control, and aim to fix faults that stop a class from playing within one business day.
4.2 We will handle personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy and Data Retention and Deletion Schedule, which form part of these terms. In summary: data is stored in Sydney; it is used only to run the platform; it is never used for advertising, sold, or used to train artificial-intelligence models; and we will tell the school of any data breach affecting its data within 72 hours of confirming it.
4.3 We will give the school at least 30 days' written notice before changing where data is stored, adding a service provider that receives personal information, or materially changing these terms or the Privacy Policy. If the school does not accept such a change it may end the licence and we will refund any fees paid for the unused part of the term.
4.4 We act on the school's instructions in relation to its data. Teachers can view, correct, export and delete student records themselves at any time; on request we will delete all the school's data within 10 business days.
5. Intellectual property
5.1 The platform, its games, content, artwork, characters and code belong to Ethics Olympiad Pty Ltd or its licensors. The school may use them only through the platform and may print or display material from it for its own classroom use.
5.2 The school's data remains the school's. We claim no rights in it beyond what is needed to run the platform.
5.3 Feedback and suggestions from teachers may be used by us to improve the platform without obligation.
6. Suspension and termination
6.1 Either party may end the licence by written notice if the other materially breaches these terms and does not fix the breach within 14 days of being told.
6.2 We may suspend a class, account or school immediately where we reasonably believe it is being used to attack the platform, to access another school's data, or in breach of the Acceptable Use Policy, and will tell the school when we do.
6.3 When the licence ends, teachers can export their class data for 90 days; after that we delete the school's data under the Retention Schedule unless the school renews or asks for earlier deletion.
7. Liability
7.1 Nothing in these terms excludes rights under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to the platform is limited to resupplying the service or refunding the licence fees paid for the licence term in which the claim arose, and neither party is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss.
7.2 The platform is a classroom resource. We are not liable for decisions made in reliance on scores or content, and the school remains responsible for the supervision of its students.
8. General
8.1 These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy are the whole agreement between the school and us about Ethics Playground, and replace earlier discussions. A school's purchase order or terms do not vary them unless we agree in writing.
8.2 These terms are governed by the law of South Australia, and the courts of South Australia have jurisdiction. Before starting any proceedings, each party will try in good faith to resolve a dispute by discussion between the school's principal or delegate and our director.
8.3 Notices to us go to privacy@ethicsplayground.com.au. Notices to the school go to the email address of the school's teachers on the platform, or to the school's registered address.
8.4 Ethics Playground is not currently assessed under the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) framework. We will tell schools when an assessment is complete and will not describe the platform as ST4S assessed until then.
A school that needs a signed agreement, or terms that reference its own state's requirements, should contact privacy@ethicsplayground.com.au.
